Separating from your partner may be a difficult and stressful experience, but it is important not to lose touch with your child or children.
Following a separation you should try to work on your relationship with your child or children, aim to minimise any conflict with their other parent and to look after yourself. It is important to remember that you cannot be replaced by anyone else or by a new partner, and that you have certain responsibilities and obligations towards your child or children.
There are a number of programs available to help you understand and manage changes involving your family, learn about the effects of separation and conflict on children, find out how to reduce any conflict and improve communication with the other parent, and achieve ongoing child focused co-operative parenting.
Child Focused Information sessions (offered through Relationship Australia Ph: 1300 735 492), Mum’s House Dad’s House sessions (Centacare Ph: 8210 8200), and Kids are First Program (Anglicare SA Ph: 8301 4200) are a few of many programs designed to help separated parents.
Please feel free to contact us to discuss what programs may be suitable for you and your child or children.
